How is GRE different from other exams such as
CAT, XAT, GMAT, TOEFL?
GRE is called the Graduate Record Examination. This exam measures the scholastic potential of each student and not the academic knowledge. The three important sections in GRE are Verbal, Quant and AWA. The verbal section in GRE is challenging, as students face difficulty with Vocabulary. Most of the students tend to answer the Quant questions easily as most of the concepts are just from high school mathematics. GRE is also the common yardstick for students to gain MS & PhD admits from universities in US. While students take CAT and XAT to pursue MBA from business schools in India, GMAT is for students who wish to pursue MBA abroad. GMAT also has Verbal and Quantitative sections and in addition to it also has a section called integrated reasoning section (12 questions). One good thing is that, more than 1200 business schools in US have started to accept GRE scores. Some universities in addition to GRE, also ask for TOEFL scores.

How much percentage applicants will get awarded
with scholarship every year?
Around 10% to 20 % of the applicants get awarded with a scholarship every year. Scholarships may range from 10% to even 100%. Don't bank on scholarship at the time of applying for the university. After getting the admit or after you go there you can look out for RA's, TA's internships etc. At present the university might not consider you for scholarship since they don't know much about you.

Would retaking GRE affect my possibility of
Admits? Will the university know that the score I submit is of second attempt?
Retaking GRE does not affect your possibilities of an admit.
Only that score which you decide to send to university is used by the admission
panelists. It is a common myth that average of your previous attempt scores are
taken into consideration, but it's a rumour nothing more.
